John Edwards wants to raise taxes for rich and corporations

April 29th, 2007 by Dave

edwards_convention_5.jpgI don’t usually take sides in politics because I usually disagree with both lefties and righties but John Edwards is on the right track. Watch your back though John…. the oil companies won’t stand for it.

Tax hikes for the rich, corporations on the table, Edwards says

Democratic presidential contender John Edwards said Sunday he would consider raising taxes on corporations and the wealthy to fund programs such as his plan for universal health care.

Edwards has long said he wants to repeal the tax cuts on upper-income earners enacted during the Bush presidency, but Sunday he seemed to go further, by saying he was open to raising them higher than they were before George W. Bush took office. He also said he would consider taxes on “excess profits,” including those made by oil companies.

Edwards said it was more important to level with voters than to worry about the political consequences of advocating higher taxes.

“It’s just the truth,” Edwards said during a news conference following his speech to the California Democratic Party convention. “It’s the only way to fund the things that need to be done.”

Edwards said his plan to provide universal health coverage would cost $90 billion to $120 billion a year.

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton is viewed as her party’s front-runner

July 4th, 2006 by Dave

be afraid, be very afraid.

Who wants a shot? Race for 2008 wide open

WASHINGTON - Seems like anyone who can run for president in 2008 is considering it.

And who can blame them?

For the first time since 1928, there is no president running for re-election or vice president seeking his partys nomination.

More than a dozen Democrats and more than a dozen Republicans are mentioned as possible candidates for the White House. And a group of activists is promoting the concept of a bipartisan or independent ticket for 2008.

Every governor and every senator wakes up each morning and hums Hail to the Chief while getting ready for work, said Republican consultant Rich Galen. There will be more people than at any time in my memory who will at least take the early steps to see if they can make a run.

Front-runners
On the Republican side, Arizona Sen. John McCain is the highest-profile politician likely considering a run. For the Democrats, New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton is viewed as her partys front-runner.

Both of these candidates will be so strong in the polls and fundraising that the other candidates will have a difficult time getting oxygen, said Scott Reed, a Republican strategist. These folks will have to decide early. If one chooses not to run, it will then be the Wild West.

i’m all for equal opportunity but personally, we’re not ready for a woman president… especially Rodham. supporters for her probably think differently but the nation’s well being needs to be considered first. then again, it’s her time. if she doesnt’ do it now… the height of her career… then it might be too late.

“I just the other day got, an internet “

July 2nd, 2006 by Dave

the more and more i listen to Republicans, who i mostly have voted for in the past, make a dumb ass of themselves, the more i turn to the democratic party. a post on digg is getting dugg to death that makes Senator Ted Stevens (R-Alaska) look like a turnip who just fell of the turnip truck. i can’t believe how idiotic he sounds. even a little kid knows more than this guy knows about how the internet carries on it’s day to day tasks.

here’s an exerp from his primer:

There’s one company now you can sign up and you can get a movie delivered to your house daily by delivery service. Okay. And currently it comes to your house, it gets put in the mail box when you get home and you change your order but you pay for that, right.

But this service isn’t going to go through the interent and what you do is you just go to a place on the internet and you order your movie and guess what you can order ten of them delivered to you and the delivery charge is free.

Ten of them streaming across that internet and what happens to your own personal internet?

I just the other day got, an internet was sent by my staff at 10 o’clock in the morning on Friday and I just got it yesterday. Why?

Because it got tangled up with all these things going on the internet commercially.

So you want to talk about the consumer? Let’s talk about you and me. We use this internet to communicate and we aren’t using it for commercial purposes.

We aren’t earning anything by going on that internet. Now I’m not saying you have to or you want to discrimnate against those people […]

The regulatory approach is wrong. Your approach is regulatory in the sense that it says “No one can charge anyone for massively invading this world of the internet”. No, I’m not finished. I want people to understand my position, I’m not going to take a lot of time. [?]

They want to deliver vast amounts of information over the internet. And again, the internet is not something you just dump something on. It’s not a truck.

It’s a series of tubes.

And if you don’t understand those tubes can be filled and if they are filled, when you put your message in, it gets in line and its going to be delayed by anyone that puts into that tube enormous amounts of material, enormous amounts of material.

Now we have a separate Department of Defense internet now, did you know that?

Do you know why?

Because they have to have theirs delivered immediately. They can’t afford getting delayed by other people.

[…]

Now I think these people are arguing whether they should be able to dump all that stuff on the internet ought to consider if they should develop a system themselves.

Maybe there is a place for a commercial net but it’s not using what consumers use every day.

It’s not using the messaging service that is essential to small businesses, to our operation of families.

The whole concept is that we should not go into this until someone shows that there is something that has been done that really is a viloation of net neutraility that hits you and me.

it’s really unbelievable how these idiots are to determine the future well being of our country. i had to open the liquor cabinet and take a couple of swigs of Jack straight from the bottle after listening to the audio file of the old coot.

you can also download the mp3 file here (10megs).

if you’re not up to speed on what “Net Neutrality” is then try Wikipedia and Save The Internet.
